Notes: The National Semiconductor 850 is an 8-digit calculator with a 9-digit LED display. The leftmost digit is used to indicate negative numbers and an error condition by displaying "E".

It can perform the four basic functions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

When switching it on it is not automatically reset but sometimes ends up in a peculiar state, press CE/C to reset.

The plastic used for this calculator couldn’t stand the test of time. Not only did it become very yellow, it also became very brittle and the calculator’s case has multiple cracks. The calculator is still fully functional however.

The battery compartment cover is made of a different type of plastic and is still shows the off-white original colour.

See also the NOVUS 850 which only has a different case.
